What is the professional practice exam and why do I need it?
CTTAM, along with the other members of CCTT, is committed to the
introduction of a Professional Practice examination as a requirement
for certification.
All applicants for certification after January 1, 1999 will be
required to satisfy this requirement. The examination will include the
topics in ethics and pertinent legislation.
The purpose of the Professional Practice Examination is to ensure
that Technicians and Technologists are familiar with the Code of
Ethics of CTTAM and The Certified Applied Science Technologists Act as
well as other Acts of the legislature of the Province of Manitoba that
may have impact directly on the certified members of the association
including:
- The Engineering and Geoscientific Professions Act
- The Architects Act
- The Land Surveyors Act
- The Bylaws of CTTAM
Unethical conduct reflects adversely on all certified technicians
and technologists. "One distinguishing feature of any profession is
that membership in that profession entails an ethical obligation to
temper one's selfish pursuit of economic success by adhering to
standards of conduct that could not be enforced either by legal fiat
or through the discipline of the market." Ethical decisions are not
always obvious or easy. Ambiguity, incomplete information, points of
view and conflicting objectives can make an ethical decision
difficult. Written standards, codes of ethics and a well developed
decision making process make these decisions easier.
The examination contains a variety of questions including
True/False, Multiple Choice, Short Answer and Case Study.
The examination fee is included in the application fee. This covers
the cost of a study guide as well as the costs of administering and
assessing the examination.
Exams are written in the CTTAM Office.
